Questions about the memorial and the shloshim
When is the shloshim memorial held?
On the 30th day from the burial. When that day falls on Shabbat or a festival, the visit to the grave is usually brought forward or postponed – according to the custom of the family and the community. You can work out the date with the yahrzeit calculator.
What do you write in a memorial invitation?
Marking thirty days or a year since the passing of our beloved, the name of the deceased, the day and the Hebrew and civil dates, the time, the cemetery and the section, and what follows the visit to the grave – a gathering, study or a meal.
What happens at the memorial at the cemetery?
It is customary to read psalms and the verses of Psalm 119 by the letters of the name, to say El Malei Rachamim or Hashkava and Kaddish with a minyan, and sometimes a few words in memory of the deceased. The memorial prayers.
